Crest Graphics was established in 1956 in West Hartford , CT.
Our company was founded by Lee Glazier and Chick Margolis. These two young entreapaneurs were working together at Plimpton's, an office supply and stationary store. Lee was the store manager and Chick was the Photographic department manager. Several of their customers at the time would complain that there was not a blueprinter close by. Chick and Lee opened Crest Blueprint Service, Inc. soon after that in West Hartford Center .
The original location had barely enough room for a single blueprint machine, a photostat machine, and an offset press. From there, the company grew and a short time later, hired our first employee, and we needed more equipment. Crest moved a couple of times during the next 18 years, all within West Hartford Center as we continued our expansion. In 1974, we had outgrown our location and moved to Farmington , just 3 miles West on the same road. Bob Margolis joined the business in 1978 after working for several years while attending school. Lee Glazier retired in 1979. Bob and Chick Margolis purchased Lee's half of the business at that time. Crest Blueprint was now doing diazo prints, photostats, complete photo services, such as wash-off mylars, negatives and printed circuit board film. We also had several plain paper copiers from Kodak and two offset presses. Drafting and engineering supply sales accounted for nearly 40% of our business. In 1984, we completed a major renovation and expansion of our building into the 19,000 square foot structure that we occupy today. We were up to over 30 employees as well. Chick Margolis retired in 1987.
Our business, like many reprographic firms, diversified into other areas of service in the early 1990's. We began making color copies using Canon Color Laser Copiers and our color services grew rapidly from there. Today, our color and finishing account for a large portion of our overall business. We offer everything from outdoor solvent printing to color copies. We can produce color work at up to 1200dpi at a size of 64” x 100' in a single piece.
Since 1999, we have been a part of American Reprographics Company , the largest reprographic company in the world. Also in 1999, we began using PlanWell , which has become the largest digital document management system in the world. And it is how we store and manage all of our documents. PlanWell allows 24/7/365 access for our clients to their plans and specifications. PlanWell has truly revolutionized the reprographic world and we're thrilled to be a part of that revolution
Crest Graphics is a pioneer in the digital reprographics industry and one of the most complete resources for duplication, reprographic, and color graphic output services in the United States.
Today we operate in Farmington, CT. Yet, along with our sister companies in the ARC network, employ over 4000 hard workers at more than 175 locations throughout the country, including retail stores which stock all major brands of drafting and engineering supplies.
